Last Saturday, we hosted Ginvi's Japan Day. Weeks of preparation and a fantastic result! René and Aya, along with our artist Jan, were the stars of the evening. A particularly beautiful detail was the genuine Japanese bonsai that Olav Potuijt provided for this special evening!
The evening was all about authentic Japanese art and tradition. Aya's grandmother's old, handmade drawings were digitized and, together with artist Jan, our designer Anne Pien transformed them together with Jan into beautiful gold leaf artworks in luxurious frames. These turned out to be a huge success!
Traditional with a modern twist! Jan also created an impressive, large gold leaf artwork, using pieces of old obi (the waistband of a kimono) fashioned into an abstract bonsai tree. This masterpiece was the first to sell, and rightly so! Truly the showpiece of the evening!
Aya and René welcomed wonderful guests, including Hiroaki Ooi of Sushi Ooi, who provided truly traditional, deliciously fresh sushi. Excellent quality and exceptionally delicious flavors! Yasu and Alina were also a must-see , among others, with their beautiful Japanese niche drinks and other delicacies. Everything was presented with impeccable care, and everyone was impressed and charmed by Yasu and Alina.
Later in the evening, Arjan Tervoort, a respected expert in traditional samurai swords, gave an impressive demonstration and explanation. Arjan himself has practiced various Japanese (primarily) traditional martial arts for many years.
The biggest star of the evening was, of course, Aya herself. Radiant in her beautiful, traditional kimono! Her friend Kumi chan was also dressed completely in Japanese style by Aya. Truly breathtakingly beautiful.
We want to thank everyone who attended; what a special evening! We are still enjoying the afterglow.
